Visiting the "Promised Land" Part 5

On our way to Seward, we...
Had some fun getting out for ice cream. 

On that "cold, cold, wet day" we took a boat to Portage Glacier.  

Next, we stopped at a little town called Wittier, formerly only accessible by train, boat, and plane.

We drove through the train tunnel to reach the town.  

We visited Hope, a historic mining town where we received a tour of the museum by a Korean War veteran who knew the stories first-hand.

For dinner, we ran through the rain to this salmon restaurant, famous for its pickles.

Finally, we made it to our campground on the water in Seward.  In the morning, we walked along the shore before visiting the parents of Daddy's best man.  They gave us their account of the earthquake of 1964 which had a magnitude of 9.2, the strongest earthquake in North America and second strongest in the world.

After the fascinating "history lesson," we hiked to Exit Glacier and ate dinner at midnight.

Julia caught this piece of the glacier herself. 

This made the perfect gift for special friends.
