In October we joined the birthday celebration for a very special lady who was friends with our grandparents, then our parents, and now with us too. Her name is Mabel Sawhill and this was her 100th birthday. Yes, it's somewhat rare for someone to live to 100 years old. What's really surprising about Aunt Mabel (as we call her) is that she is in excellent condition. Not only did she come to her party, she planned it, catered it, and spoke at it. Here's an article with pictures of her birthday party preparations.
Aunt Mabel catered our parents' wedding 23 years ago. When our dad was still single, Aunt Mabel asked him if she would have to be catering his wedding in a wheel chair, and she's still on her feet today!
Joanna, Jessica, and I had the opportunity to help her food preparations the day before the party. We put out thousands of little sandwiches. Even after we had grown tired from standing for several hours, Aunt Mabel was going strong!
Another highlight of this event was spending time with our dad's sister's family from WA.
By the way, Aunt Mabel is also passionate about high heels - she actually wears them too!
Aunt Mabel was expecting about 400 people for her open-invitation party, though she acknowledged that others were expecting closer to 500 guests. The final count on the day was something around 680 attendees!

Our cousin Ashley is a photographer, so we got some family pictures while together.
