A Flood

For many, flooding from heavy rains is a common headache, but we live on a hill.  Because of that, we have never experienced water all over the floor and the process of cleaning up and repairing the mess until... 

Monday morning.

At 6 am Monday morning, Mommy came downstairs to the sound of water running.  She rain upstairs to get Janelle and I, who had just woken up, to help soak up the water covering the kitchen floor.  Water had been gushing out of the dishwasher since we went to bed at 10 pm Sunday night.  We thought the towels might help until Janelle opened the door to the (previously completely finished) basement and heard a funny sound.  We went down and found this:

 It's hard to tell in the pictures, but water is covering the floor about 1/2 an inch deep.  

 Right away though, we started noticing blessings in this.  For example, this antique pump organ we just got was up on bricks!

 These paper bags of grains were in a plastic bin!  Why?  I don't know, but God knew what was going to happen.  We didn't have any paper bags of food on the floor in the pantry, so we didn't lose any food.  We're also extremely grateful that the water did not touch anything in our storage room.  You don't need to see a picture of it; it's way too packed.

 What you can't see is that's it's raining inside.  

 Our insurance is helping to cover the repairs.  Workmen tore out parts of the ceiling, part of the floors in the basement and kitchen, and part of the wall.  We had four days of these big fans and dehumidifiers drying things out.

 Our naughty dishwasher is getting a time out - time out of it's space, that is.  We're using it as a drying rack.  It's much easier to unload the dishes because the dishwasher is closer to the cupboards.  I can reach both the dishwasher and cupboards while standing in one place.

 These make the house noisy and hot.  

Because part of our dining room floor had to dry out, we ate all our meals on the deck which was very, VERY cold.  But we are thankful that it was not snowing, or raining, or scorching hot.  It reminded us of camping.  We're not going on our usual camping trip this fall, so we got our experience of eating in the cold.  

We sometimes felt like this.  :(

But we tried to feel more like this. :)

God is good, and we're happy to say that the fans and dehumidifiers are all gone.  We're enjoying the quiet and eating inside.  Our house is still not close to normal, but we can still use the kitchen and most of the house.
