Titanic Commemoration

     On April 14th 1912, the "unsinkable" Titanic struck an iceberg and sank two hours and forty minutes later in the early morning of April 15th.  

     On the 100th anniversary of the day the Titanic struck ice, we got together with another family to celebrate.  Although the event is sad, we should remember God's display of power to those who said that not even God could sink the Titanic.  Also, we wanted to honor the brave men who gave their lives to save women and children first.  In doing so, they imitated Christ who laid down His life for His bride, the church and said, "Greater love has no one than this, that one lay down his life for his friends. (John 15:13)" 

     The sinking is a reminder to us that God is in control and of man's frailty.  Psalm 103:15-16 says, "As for man, his days are like grass; As a flower of the field, so he flourishes.  When the wind has passed over it, it is no more, And its place acknowledges it no longer. "

     Instead of using their God-given intelligence to build the Titanic for God's glory, the builders built the ship in defiance of God, a kind of challenge to His power.

Then we danced to music played on the Titanic.

Havalah was celebrating her golden birthday!  Happy Birthday Havalah!

The younger children watched Mary Poppins while the rest of us watched A Night to Remember, a very good movie showing many actual stories of the Titanic.

     Because we got a later start and spent longer than expected on each activity, we ended up watching the movie at exactly the time the Titanic struck the iceberg (11:40 p.m.) and said goodbye at midnight.  We will fondly remember this night for many years.
